An interesting discussion at the end of the 2015 AGM about the free travel on WSR trains available for WSRA members.

The Chairman explained the current arrangements by which the WSRA pay 50% of an Adult Rover to the WSR Plc every time a WSRA member takes up the free travel offer.

The Chairman announced this arrangement will not be sustainable in 2016 when the percentage rises to 75%.

The Chairman then asked the meeting for ideas on possible alternative methods.

It was clear that some members did not appreciate the rate of recompensense is set by the WSR Plc and not the WSRA.

An idea that was discussed several times was to use the WSRA membership card as a “discount card” which could, for example, give the member a 75% 25% discount on the ticket.

The “discount card” idea is not new and has been suggested by quite a few people to both WSRA and WSR Plc, particularly as part of submissions to the WSR Plc’s draft Ten Year Plan and to the WSRA’s Review Panel.
