The maximum number of trustees is** ten.**

With the resignations of Chris Walters, David Smart and John Wood (see Companies House website) the number of trustees is **seven **leaving **three** vacancies.

One third of the trustees must stand down each year. The nearest whole number to one third of seven is two. So this year **two** trustees must stand down (and may stand again for election at the AGM)

Which means the number of vacancies in 2015 up for grabs is **five.**

We understand there are** five** candidates so far this year, not including the two “stand down” trustees, so we could have **seven** candidates in total.

All this is assuming no further resignations between now and the closing of trustee nominations for 2015.

Johnny Ball would be proud of us…or not, if we got our sums wrong.

I suppose this post needs me to say that if 3 more trustees are removed at the EGM then there will only be 4 trustees so we need more people to stand than the 5 you have mentioned or the election could be uncontested. Bit late now since today is the closing date for nominations.

You could be right! If there are only four trustees left, then one third of four is one. So only one of the four needs to stand down. There’d be six vacancies. Five “new” and one “stand down” would mean no contest. Something to think about.

I believe that at the moment we do not know who the two ‘stand down’ Trustees will be, so what happens if one or both of them happens to be amongst those who may be removed at the EGM? That could affect the ‘maths’.

Also, at what exact point in the annual process is the selection made as to who will stand down? Clearly it will have to be made *before* the Agenda is issued for the 2015 AGM, but has it perhaps been made already?
