Supporters of the WSRA Reform Group have kindly advised us of potential travel and parking difficulties for members making their way to Bishops Lydeard Village Hall for the West Somerset Railway Association EGM on Sunday 10 May 2015 – a date selected and set by the WSRA.

On the same day, the village celebrates “Somerset Day” with activities and street stalls at Gore Square, and a procession through the village from Lydeard House. Access for cars to the Hall will be hampered and even then parking may be limited or impossible. It seems Minehead Road (from Gore Square to the by-pass) will be closed.

It is also ‘Taunton Bus Running Day’ using vintage buses some of which will run to/from Bishops Lydeard Railway Station. See

The Hall is a ten minute walk from the railway station and members may consider parking there. However, with a full day of train services, including the Quantock Belle dining train, the station car park is likely to be full by noon. There is also a Volunteer Open Day being held at the station.

The Reform Group have arranged for the overflow car park, in a field near the station entrance, to be available on the day, thanks to the owners, Dunkirk House. The field is close to the A358 junction and therefore slightly closer to the Hall via the pedestrian underpass.

Members should note it will take a long time for members to gain entry to the Hall due to the verification process at the door. Best to plan to arrive quite early. The meeting is due to start at 2pm.
